Voter Settings (Platinum Plans Only)

In a poll's Voters tab, you can change the information that BallotBox uses for your voter list by clicking the gear icon.  These settings can only be changed if you have a Platinum subscription.

Note that to assign Voter Groups to your voters, you do not use Voter Settings.  Instead, you start by turning on Advanced Ballot Features, and then setting your questionnaire to use Voter Groups.  If you do, when you add voters, you will be asked to assign Voter Groups to your voters.  (Voter Groups require Gold or Platinum subscriptions.) For more information about Voter Groups, please see this article.

When you do, the Voter Settings dialog box will open.

Voter ID.  Each voter must have a unique ID.  For most organizations, using each voter's email address is a good Voter ID, and that is BallotBox's default setting.  If you are using our VoterSignUp service because you do not have email addresses for all of your voters (requires a Platinum subscription), you may want to use something else for the Voter ID, such as a membership number.  Otherwise, we recommend leaving this setting alone.

Voter Secret.  For most polls, our customers feel that the process is secure enough without setting a Voter Secret: To cast a voter's ballot, an impersonator would have to intercept the email that BallotBox sends the voter.  Without that unique email, and the code embedded in it, a person cannot impersonate a voter.   In some cases, an organization could decide to require the voter to enter information known to the organization and to the voter, but unlikely to be known to anyone else ... which we call a "Voter Secret."  While this makes the poll even more secure, keep in mind that if a voter does not readily know the "secret," this impediment may reduce participation in your poll.

Vote Allocation.  Most polls allocate one vote per voter, and that is our default setting. Some organizations may have bylaws that allocate a different number of votes, and BallotBox can support that.  For example, some homeowners' associations allocate a number of votes based on the appraised value of each home, or based on acreage owned.   This is commonly called "weighted voting."

Email Address.  To use our VoterSignUp service, you would select "Can be provided by voter."  For more information about VoterSignUp, please see this article

When you add voters, changes you make to the Voter Settings will impact the information you must provide about each voter.

Tip:  The Voter Settings can only be modified for Platinum subscriptions, which have full turn-key support from BallotBox personnel.  Therefore you would not need to become an expert in any of the Voter Settings; based on your organization's requirements, we will configure these settings for you.
