How do I set a strong but memorable password? (What are the password requirements?)

Historically, a password considered "strong" has required a combination of * uppercase letters (A B C D E ...) * lowercase letters (a b c d e ...) * digits (1 2 3 4 5 ...) * punctuation symbols (@ # $ % & ...) BallotBox does not have those sorts of password requirements. They made passwords hard to remember, without actually making them hard for a computer to guess. Here is a quick history lesson, and then what we recommend: The old view of "strong passwords" Sometimes, peop...

Is there a link I can use to log in to my Officer account?

If you are an Officer in a poll, you will receive emails from BallotBox about that particular poll. Each organization’s BallotBox home page is in the format, https://organization.BallotBoxOnline.com. First, we recommend that you check your spam (junk mail) folder, or wherever blocked emails are in your system. Your email from BallotBox may be there. What information can I see about a Poll in which I’m an Officer?

You will be guided to this page by a link in an email that BallotBox will send you automatically. Later, you can return to the poll by going to your organization’s BallotBox account home page (https://_...

What is my role as an Officer in the process of unlocking the Poll and retrieving the results?

Each poll has a designated “quorum” size, which is the number of Officers required to unlock the poll’s results. By default, the quorum size is 2, but our customer can set the number to be as high as 5. To unlock a poll’s results, at least the quorum size number of Officers for that poll must get together, in person, in front of the same web browser, to enter their passwords. Because the ballots are encrypted, there is no alternative to this process – if too many Officers forget their password...

What happens if I, as an Officer, do not approve the launch of a Poll by the time it is scheduled to launch?

If the Officers for a poll do not approve the poll by the time it is set to launch, BallotBox will send the Admin for that poll an email setting forth the following options: * The Admin can email the Officers who have not approved the poll yet, reminding them. * If at least a quorum of the Officers have at least set passwords, the Admin can “manually launch” the poll even though the Officers have not approved it. * The Admin can cancel the poll. If, however, the Officers have not ev...

I’m being asked as an Officer to provide feedback on a Poll – what does that mean, and who will see that feedback?

Officers have two key functions in BallotBox. They review the ballot questionnaire and the poll settings, and their passwords are required to unlock the poll’s results. As part of that first function, when an Admin for your organization deploys a poll for review, each Officer for that poll will receive an email that says he or she has been selected to be an Officer. Each Officer clicks the button in that email, and sets his or her Officer password. Then the Officer will see a one-page overview ...

Why is it so important that I remember my Officer password?

Once a poll’s voting period starts, each Officer password is used to protect the integrity of the poll and the anonymity of the ballots that have been cast. To be able to help unlock the results, _you must remember your Officer password_. The cast ballots are encrypted in our database, and without the Officer passwords, there is no way to decrypt them. If too many Officers forget their passwords, the poll will have to be scrapped, and everyone will have to vote again.

I have forgotten my Officer password – can I just reset it?

You can tell BallotBox you forgot your password, and you will be emailed a link that you can use to reset it. If you reset your Officer password for a poll that has launched, your new password cannot be used to unlock that poll. To be able to help unlock the results, _you must remember your Officer password that was in effect before you reset it_. The cast ballots are encrypted in our database, and without the Officer passwords, there is no way to decrypt them. If too many Officers forget their...
